about

'Threnody for the Victims of State Sanctioned Violence'

The year is 2020. Empathy and it's antithesis stand face to face in the bitter contest we all play our part in.

This song is about trudging forward through violent uncertainty. This song is about limping forward, out, or away. This song is meant to lament the pain, sorrow, and confusion perpetuated by violence today, tomorrow, and yesterday. This song is about fighting violence in all its incarnations: again and again and again

This song encompasses the feelings Borasisi has bearing witness to violence being carried out by the state- any state at all.
Borasisi stands in solidarity with the plight of all peoples.

Borasisi wishes to take this moment you have allowed them to state this: We believe black lives matter. We are starkly anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and anti-fascist. We believe feminism without intersectionality is not feminism at all. We are against prisons and any criminalization of life. We believe Fred Hampton may have been the second coming of Christ. We mourn for every man, woman, and child harmed, displaced, or killed by state sanctioned violence. We mourn the soldiers who commit atrocities in the name of their country or for ideas such as "freedom". We reject any notion of a justified killing. We believe that all life is sacred. We believe that all cops are bastards and that they (the police) are serving to protect white supremacy (delusion) and nothing else. We believe that true power lies in the hands of the people, should they pick up the reigns and fight.

This song is dedicated to the families in detention centers on the US/Mexican border. This song is dedicated to the victims of lynchings and mob violence the state either condoned or turned a blind eye to. This song is dedicated to the victims of US terror in the Middle East. This song is dedicated to every LGBTQ+ and POC killed by police. This song is dedicated to the millions of Jews killed in the Holocaust and the millions of Muslims actively in concentration camps in China. This song is dedicated to native peoples everywhere who have been forced from their land in the name of colonialism and imperialism. This song is dedicated to all those who have fought against fascist states and been killed or maimed, and those who only sought to live and were similarly killed or maimed.

MF Grimm said it best in his 2002 release ‘To All My Comrades’ so I will turn to his words for this sign off.

“There is no way to physically express my loss of all of you.
And joy is knowing that I will see all of you soon.
But until then, my fallen comrades, for you, I howl at the moon.”
